Lake Urmia, located in north-western Iran, used to be one of the largest saltwater lakes on Earth.
Since 1970s Lake Urmia has been drying up rapidly. It has shrunk by 90% as the result of heavy water diversion.
Following satellite imagery, accessed via Spaceknow Analytics, shows the lake in spring and summer 2013.
It captures Lake Urmia changing from a dark green color to a dark red in a matter of months.
