In April 2015 a massive fire broke out at the Port of Santos, Brazil. The fire raged for nine days at the Latin America’s largest fuel tank storage facility run by Ultracargo and affected several storage tanks containing ethanol and gasoline fuel. There were no casualties from the explosion. The fire had a negative impact on the regional economy, restricting truck access to the port and slowing down port operations.
Spaceknow analyzed satellite images of the area with Spaceknow Analytics to detect any changes on the site before and after the incident.
In the first image you can see the storage facility before the accident when the storage facility was fully functioning.
In next satellite images taken in June and August 2015 you can see the site only several months after the accident. Four storage tanks are completely burned down and others nearby are seriously damaged.
